How to reduce the file size of a gif image?

I need to reduce the size of a gif image to less than 80kb. It's animated, so I can't change it to jpeg. How to reduce the file size of a gif image?
You have two choices:

A) scale the image size

B) reduce the frame rate

Scaling the image is the best choice, because it is easy. Reducing the frames means you'll get a jerkily movie, and it is not so easy to do. You can use the gimp in both cases.

There's a third choice:

C) use another format

such as flash, mpeg or ogg. This surely solves your size problem, but I don't know if it is applicable.
