Is there a way to change icon view in vista so it will show file size and/or number of files in a folder?
Like i know in windows explorer its supposed to show file size but it doesnt. Before you answer, I would like to add that I have been doing research on this for hours it seems...
I am filling out an application that is in PDF form; however, the font size doesn't seem to change and sometimes the font is so large to fit in the fields that it cuts off half the letters I type!
None of the recommendations I've tried worked. Such as using the typewriter tool, going to touch-up text tool(it won't let me select any font size no matter what words I highlight), and the Text box properties(I hit CTRL+E, yet no matter where my cursor is or what I highlight, I get a 'No current selection' dialog box).
Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong.

If you're using the old Borland C++ for DOS apps, it has it's own graphics drivers built in. If you're using Visual C++, I can't help you - I write apps for Solaris and BSD.

Windows Movie Maker - Video Size?
I made a movie on wmm and when it is saved as a project it is only 3000KB but when I saved it to the computer as an AVI file it became 1.45GB (WHAT THE HELL!?) Now i am sad cause I can't load it onto youtube... I tried setting the file size to 100MB but it said the virtual memory was to low or something. What can I do? How can I compress a large .avi file? Right now it is huge, and won't upload or attach.?
I recorded some footage with my camera and I attempted to upload it to You Tube. Let the record also show, when I uploaded it to my computer, it was an .avi file (whatever that is). I changed it to a .wmv file, however, both played just fine through the media player (I only changed it because I didn't know how .avi works and I was concerned that the people I would be sending it to couldn't open it. It didn't change the file size, though). Anywho, after waiting an hour to upload 57 seconds of footage, that the file what 31+ million bytes!!!! How do I shrink it?? Is that what compressing a file means? Please help....

If it is an .AVI file that large for a mere 57 seconds of footage... it would have to be the uncompressed form of Windows .AVI file wrapper.
AVI is an extension that can represent a variety of Audio/Video Interleaved formats. Windows original form of this %26quot;wrapper%26quot; was uncompressed and thus the end results were files that are extremely large. Windows Media Video [or .WMV] is similar [also by Microsoft] and if the quality settings are at the high end the result will also be a very large file.
There are a number of things that you could actually do to reduce the size of the file.
1. Since .AVI is only a %26quot;wrapper%26quot; for such formats as AVI, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, H-264... etc. any one of these codecs [short for compression/depression] can be used to re-encode the file to a much, much smaller size with little to no discernible loss of quality.
2. Since you are concerned with others being able to open it... you can use Microsoft's Media encoder to re-encode at a much lower quality and bandwidth size. You will find that this will greatly reduce the files original size.
3. Since almost all the codecs are FREE if you know where to look... I would suggest either H-264 [if the people you send it have fairly new pcs ~ as this codec requires a great deal of pc power to actually decompress the video %26quot;on the fly%26quot; as it plays... and just tell the people you send it to what codec was used and where they can locate it.] With this particular codec you will achieve astounding file reductions. I have seen 25 gigabyte video files reduced to a mere hundred or so mega bytes [approx 250% reduction in size]
... or if they have older pcs you could use the Xvid/Divx codec [which is just microsoft's MPEG-4 codec with distinctly different external settings upon entry...] Almost everyone has this codec as it is the most popular ~ it provides a relatively decent reduction in size and doesn't require an enormous amount of cpu time to decompress and play. Again you can simply tell them where to obtain the proper codec [if they even need it]
4. Most sites such as Youtube, Google... etc will convert your %26quot;compressed%26quot; AVI files to a more readily watchable type of file known as FLASH Video... it comes in several flavors as well, such as .FLV, .SWF, etc...

If it is an .AVI file that large for a mere 57 seconds of footage... it would have to be the uncompressed form of Windows .AVI file wrapper.
AVI is an extension that can represent a variety of Audio/Video Interleaved formats. Windows original form of this %26quot;wrapper%26quot; was uncompressed and thus the end results were files that are extremely large. Windows Media Video [or .WMV] is similar [also by Microsoft] and if the quality settings are at the high end the result will also be a very large file.
There are a number of things that you could actually do to reduce the size of the file.
1. Since .AVI is only a %26quot;wrapper%26quot; for such formats as AVI, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, H-264... etc. any one of these codecs [short for compression/depression] can be used to re-encode the file to a much, much smaller size with little to no discernible loss of quality.
2. Since you are concerned with others being able to open it... you can use Microsoft's Media encoder to re-encode at a much lower quality and bandwidth size. You will find that this will greatly reduce the files original size.
3. Since almost all the codecs are FREE if you know where to look... I would suggest either H-264 [if the people you send it have fairly new pcs ~ as this codec requires a great deal of pc power to actually decompress the video %26quot;on the fly%26quot; as it plays... and just tell the people you send it to what codec was used and where they can locate it.] With this particular codec you will achieve astounding file reductions. I have seen 25 gigabyte video files reduced to a mere hundred or so mega bytes [approx 250% reduction in size]
... or if they have older pcs you could use the Xvid/Divx codec [which is just microsoft's MPEG-4 codec with distinctly different external settings upon entry...] Almost everyone has this codec as it is the most popular ~ it provides a relatively decent reduction in size and doesn't require an enormous amount of cpu time to decompress and play. Again you can simply tell them where to obtain the proper codec [if they even need it]
4. Most sites such as Youtube, Google... etc will convert your %26quot;compressed%26quot; AVI files to a more readily watchable type of file known as FLASH Video... it comes in several flavors as well, such as .FLV, .SWF, etc...

I have to scan in my transcripts but the files are too large for site's folders. I have tried everything they suggested on the FAQ page to no avail. What I would like to do is, what can be done in Paint Shop Pro, re-size the thumbnails to give a decent representation of the graphics

How to make a ringtone with audacity?
I'm trying to take a 20 second piece of a song, import it into audacity, and then send it to my phone through email. My only problem is that when I save the 20 second sound clip it is a lot larger than I want it to be. I want it to be less than 1 mb but no matter what I try I can't change the file size. I use Nero Wave Editor to make my mp3 shorter in time length but I've noticed the edited file size barely changes but why? shouldnt the Edited File be alot smaller than the original?

Since I don't have powerpoint, I use OpenOffice Impress. However, my school only has powerpoint 2003 so I have to save my files in the powerpoint 1997 format. How can I compress the files OpenOffice produces because I put pictures (pretty modest resolution - not in MP range) that is causing the file size to skyrocket. I know there are utilities out there but all the ones I've found so far are shareware. How can you change a video file size to make it BIGGER! NOT SMALLER!?
I'm trying to combine all these Youtube vids to make one big file, but there is one vid that for some reason DivX Converter refuses to allow because frame rate, sample bit, resolution or whatever has to be exactly the same as the rest, but it doesn't go into detail! I've checked resolution and a few other things, and the only thing that's different from this file to the other ones is:
Estimated file size: 22.34MB
All the others are Estimated file size: 24.38MB

what you need to do is re-assign the program that opens your JPG files, which is a J Peg or jpeg file...
and can be done with any file format..
right click on the image file.
select properties..
look where it says Opens with..
accros from where it says that select change...
and then will come a list of programs..
select Windows Picture and fax viewer, which is the defalt for the windows operating system...
and if you dont have that option, open it with the program that you do know, that can handle images..

Forget Photoshop - it's expensive. And the %26quot;Starter Edition%26quot; is not really all that functional. Download and install the free IrfanView from http://www.irfanview.com/ . You can manipulate pictures easily with this software. I use it to resize pictures I'm posting on the web. By resizing the picture and then saving it (best saving it with a different file name) you'll find that the size is greatly reduced. My camera is set to its maximum resolution; when I resize photos to 1024x768 for the web, most of the JPG files end up about 200Kb. Another free software that does this type of thing but has many more %26quot;touch up%26quot; features for photos is Googe's Picasa.
Try either of the free softwares before going out and buying Photoshop Elements (which is quite comparable to either of the two free programs I mentioned) for $80-$90 on line. Or you could get the full blown Photoshop for just a shade over $600. Or you could stick with the free software. Your choice.

I've recently upgraded my RAM from 1GB to 2GB. Originally my Dell Dimension 2400 came from factory with only 128MB. Can you believe it? I don't know who told you to Increase your Page file size, cause a Page File is Extra Instructions placed on your HardDrive that pretends to be RAM for the sake of easing systems with lower Available RAM. I would Recommend Leaving Windows to Adjust your Page file as it sees fit.

I want Windows Media Center to record tv on my Western Digital My Book and it say that its NTFS file size limit is 30min.
