Why does the file size change?

I am trying to put a movie onto a DVD, which is 1.24 gb. When i drop the file into teh program, it grows to 8 gb. How can I prevent this from happening? Why does the file size change?
actually, what happened when u trying to put a movie or video, it becomes Video DVD

now this video dvd does not depend upon size, it depends upon length of the movie / video,

normal single layer 4.5 GB DVD support 120 minutes of video playback, if your movie is larger than than, it grows in size......

now there can be a solution to it, if u r trying to play that in computer, burn that in %26quot;Data DVD%26quot; instead of %26quot;VIDEO DVD%26quot;, this will depend upon size. and won't show 8GB

hope u r using Nero to burn that, if not get it from here :

http://ftp22.nero.com/Nero8/Nero-8.3.2.1

or here :

hope this solves your problem....

let me know for further difficulties...

thnxWhy does the file size change?
You can't prevent it. To put it on a DVD it is changing the format of the data to produce a video DVD.

The DVD video format takes more room.

This assumes that you want to use it in a DVD player.

If you just want to save the file to run it on another computer, you should save it as data and then it should not grow in size at all.Why does the file size change?
you probably have different format video on your computer and your burning software is converting it to DVD format automatically

example 600 mb of divx movie will be 3-4 gig of DVD format

the DVD format is the one you play on your home DVD player
