How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?

I use Kodak Easy Share software. My images are 300-400 KB. I wanted to enter a contest that said they had to be no more than 80KB. How do I get my image files that small without distorting the image? I do not know much about changing files and such so please be descriptive. Thank You!How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?
First save a copy of your photos you want to submit to another folder. Only copies not the originals. Second open the photos in the editing software you use for them. Photoshop CS is the best. Once they are open go to size, it should be in your edit or image tab. When it comes up you should see image size. Click on that. There should be a place for resolution. Make the resolution 72. That is standard for Internet and makes the files smaller without damaging them. You can also change the size, but first See what that does for you.How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?
Go to Save for Web in Photoshop. On the dialog box there is a little arrow towards the top on the right. Click it and in the drop down box choose Optimize for File Size. Another dialog box will appear and at the top where it says Desired File Size type in 80, hit OK, then save your file in the appropriate location. This will diminish the size without destroying the integrity of the image.

In Easy Share you are on your own. That software is not very advanced. How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?
To keep pixel size and dpi depth, try saving in PNG format. 80K sounds pretty lightweight like for a submissions rough or something. If the image is meant to be viewed on a monitor only, bring it down to 72 dpis without rescaling the image in pixel size. ALWAYS keep your raw images (350K average doesn't sounds very heavy either). How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?

I'm not familiar with that software, I just use the picture manager that comes with Microsoft Office. Click 'edit;' then 'resize;' it brings up various preset sizes, or you can enter in whatever size you want. You may also have to do some cropping to get it just right, for example--you resize it, and it's 81KB.How do I get my digital pictures to be a smaller file size without destroying the image?
