I use VLC to play AVI files ... It workd great and the program is safe and free to download.Every time i try to import an avi file to my windows movie maker it always pulls up just like music?
Sounds like you have a movie file (DivX), and you need a codec to play it.

There are a variety of codec packs out there. I recommend FFDShow: Light on resources, and virtually glitch free.

How to make a ringtone with audacity?

I'm trying to take a 20 second piece of a song, import it into audacity, and then send it to my phone through email. My only problem is that when I save the 20 second sound clip it is a lot larger than I want it to be. I want it to be less than 1 mb but no matter what I try I can't change the file size. Is there any way to either compress the file with audacity or lessen the sound quality so it doesn't take up so much space? How to make a ringtone with audacity?
Make sure you're exporting the file as a .MP3 file. You do (File -%26gt; Export...). Then under save as type, select MP3 file. If you were using WAV or the uncompressed type, it would explain the big file size.

Hope this helps! How to make a ringtone with audacity?
When you import it just reduce the Project Rate - bottom left in Audacity.

There is also a very full and useful guide to using Audacity to make ringtones here:

How to change the size of the thumbnails in Windows Explorer?

These thumbnails are often too small to give a accurate impression of the file, more so if it is a complex graphic of some sort.

What I would like to do is, what can be done in Paint Shop Pro, re-size the thumbnails to give a decent representation of the graphics

I know the desktop icon size settings has no effect on and therefore NOTHING to do with the size of the file thumbnail views in Explorer.

So is there a registry value somewhere that can be changed to do what I want? How to change the size of the thumbnails in Windows Explorer?

Nero Wave Editor File size?????

I use Nero Wave Editor to make my mp3 shorter in time length but I've noticed the edited file size barely changes but why? shouldnt the Edited File be alot smaller than the original?

how do I cut down on file size and song length without sacrificing quality?

Im doing this so i can make my own ring tones for my phone, plus I have limited memory on my phone...

Pre-Edit:

Song Length: 4:54 min

File Size: 4.5 MB

Post Edit:

Song Length: 26 Seconds

File Size: 4.43 MB

all my other edited files had very similar results....Nero Wave Editor File size?????
Nero Wave Editor uses a very simple encoder. You can try some other encoder that uses Lame or Blade encoders. Try Goldwave.Nero Wave Editor File size?????
you have to record it at a lower quality. i know my phone personally only takes 8khz ring tones anyways.

How compress the .ppt files produced by OpenOffice?

Since I don't have powerpoint, I use OpenOffice Impress. However, my school only has powerpoint 2003 so I have to save my files in the powerpoint 1997 format. How can I compress the files OpenOffice produces because I put pictures (pretty modest resolution - not in MP range) that is causing the file size to skyrocket. I know there are utilities out there but all the ones I've found so far are shareware. Are there any free ones or is there anything I can do from OpenOffice Impress itself to reduce my .ppt file sizes? I notice that saving in the .odp format doesn't seem to change file size much either. How compress the .ppt files produced by OpenOffice?
